Publisher Book Lists: In-House Favorites

Publisher Book Lists

We’re thrilled with the launch of Book Lists, as are many of the publishing houses on Oyster. We’ve asked a few of them to create Lists of their own.

Ecco

Ecco is home to the likes of Joyce Carol Oates, Richard Ford, and Anthony Bourdain. Travel the world through their list of globe-spanning fiction and nonfiction, featuring a mix of familiar names and bright, young writers. See Ecco’s Book List

Harper Perennial

Affectionately known as Olive (and one of the best accounts on literary Twitter), this year Harper Perennial celebrated its 50th year as one of the most venerable book publishers. For their Book List, the Perennial staff has selected a wide range of books to illustrate the breadth of their catalog, from the nonfiction of Peter Hessler and John Brockman to novels by Marjorie Kernan and Daniel Alarcon. See Harper Perennial’s Book List

Melville House

Indie heroes Melville House have always been bold and outspoken. Their Book Lists are just as audacious—in particular their cheeky “Love Is (Mostly) Hell” List, featuring the house’s best and most provocative titles. See Melville House’s Book List

Coffee House

When Caroline Casey at Coffee House Press is asked to describe what the house is like, she says they’re “like Morrissey: making beautiful things in a meaningless life.” It’s a beautiful and bleak sentiment, and fittingly, their Book List is titled “The Depressing State of the World.” See Coffee House Press’s Book List

EpicReads

If you didn’t get your fill of spooky and scary from Halloween, EpicReads has a Book List of “Bone-Chilling Young Adult Reads” that are sure to have you shaking. See EpicReads’s Book List

Open Road

The staff of the ebook publisher Open Road is reading a great mix of contemporary classics from the likes of Michael Chabon, Alice Walker, Sherman Alexie, Octavia Butler, and more. See Open Road’s Book List
